TEB Giveaway: Louisville Doula Project
If it takes a village to raise one child, it's going to take many villages to support work that challenges and counteracts injustice in pregnancy, birth and postpartum today. The Educated Birth is committed to being a part of that.
We do this in three ways: (1) gifting our own resources to qualifying groups, (2) spreading awareness of these groups via our blog and social media, and (3) inviting others in the village to share and donate to these groups, too.
The Louisville Doula Project (LDP)
Louisville, Kentucky
Describe your organization. What should people know about who you are, why you started, who you reach, and what you’re doing in your community today?
Founded in 2017, the Louisville Doula Project is the first doula project offering full-spectrum doula care in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. We are an emerging group of doulas, midwives, activists and community organizers who are committed to the mission and values of LDP. The Louisville Doula Project (LDP) provides supports access to the full range of reproductive choices'. LDP's mission lends to specific focus to provide in-clinic abortion, birth, miscarriage and stillbirth support to individuals who want or need them.
In our community today we are doing Abortion and Loss Support Training, Birth Doula Servies, Abortion & Miscarriage Support, Fundraising, Leadership and Skill sharing for LDP Doulas and collaboration with other local groups or people who share out values of expanding Reproductive Justice in Louisville, Ky. Our reach is diverse and varies. There are a lot of people interested in being birth workers or learning how to be more involved in Reproductive Rights and Justice. Our clients come from various backgrounds and hear about us through word of mouth or internet.
How does your organization promote the work of reproductive justice?
We support people and their decision when, if and how they want to parent. We uplift marginalized communities and understand that we can improve things by understanding history of BIPOC experiences and listening.
Take us behind the scenes.
What does someone who reaches out to your organization get?
It depends on their need. We provide any resources we can. That could look like a list of providers, birth goal sheet, links to various websites, birth doula serice with prenatals and labor support. The whole nine yards
Where do you see your org and your work in a year, 5 years, 10 years?
We hope to grow and be able to staff and fully compensate our doulas for their time. In 5 years, we would love to have more than one abortion doula program within clinics in the area, fund two of our black doulas midwifery education, have our own childbirth education program for clients. 10 years, that is so far away. I dont feel like I can answer for everyone.
What are ways that folks can support the work that you’re doing non-monetarily, and monetarily? Do you have a donation page we can link to?
Yes, you can donate directly on our site https://www.louisvilledoulaproject.org/donate
We also have venmo: @louisvilledoulaproject
Fund Chaneys Midwifery School: It’s on a private Facebook fundraiser and we hope to have a shirt campaign on Bonfire ongoing. This should be up by February 4th.
Following on social media can keep you updated on those happenings. If anyone has the capacity to help us write and search grants, that would be helpful.
